Verdict
Early form: a tidy, free alternative to Obsidian or Notion if your notes live in Markdown and your agents need to work in them too. Young project, so expect rough edges.
What it is
Notes in plain files, with your agents sitting in the same room.
OpenKnowledge is a local-first WYSIWYG Markdown editor for notes, team wikis and agent "second brains". Claude, Codex and Cursor can open and edit the same files, with history and undo, and sharing runs on git under the hood. It is free and GPL-3.0 licensed, with desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux, or a local web app via npm.
Launch · Show HN, 25 Jun 2026 (381 points). About 4,600 GitHub stars by 18 Oct.
Best for
- Markdown notes and specs that agents also edit
- Teams who want git-backed docs without touching git
Watch-outs
- Big Notion databases you need to migrate today
- Phone-first note takers (desktop and web only)
